What a week!

This week was crazy!! Started out with me taking the wrong bus, then leaving my Credit Card at the ATM and of course no water... No worries got my card back and we got water (for the moment). After all the stress, I got an Ice Cream.

This week we also had divisions! I was in my area with Sister Ferreira, my old companion! It was crazy we caught up on all the good stuff. Then we worked hard! It was a normal division.

We then had a special missionary conference with all missionaries in the world. Whelp in our part of Africa the internet decided to not work, so we sat doing nothing for 2 hours hoping to see it. We saw about 10 mins. Today, we finally got to watch it. WOW!! This is the work of the Lord and I am so happy to be a part of it right now. First time in over 10 years since having a conference like that and I was a part of it!

It is interesting to see investigators realizing the hand of the Lord. Last week we had a lesson with a Lady. It was my companions turn to knock on the door (remember she is new, this was her first door) I did not say anything and my companion froze. The lady was like are you going to enter or just stand there... We then entered and started teaching about Joseph Smith. Her 4 year old son then locked himself in the bathroom. She was very worried about that since all her cleaning materials are inside that room. Here most doors have glass windows on them. She broke the window to unlock the door. Turns out her son was just using the bathroom like he had said. Then this week we visited her again. She then told us it was like someone was trying to stop her from listening to us. We then testified that is Satan and good things are about to come from our visits. I love when people recognize things like that!!

While doing service found a Utah Sweater in the Lady’s clothes. That was really rare! Thought it was funny. Lady did not find it as cool as me, just clothes to her.  Hope everyone has a good week!

Love,

Sister Burke

P.S. I found Rua 10!! Ha-ha

Welcome SUMMER!!!!

Where did this heat come from?! It is only going to get worst too... So all you in Utah with snow be jealous!! Ha-ha. No but really it is hot!

Then one day we had crazy looking clouds but it never rained!! I wish it would have rained.

Our house once again does not have water... Today is day 10 without water. This is life now totally use to it. Sad part, my new companion arrived Tuesday and without water. 2 days on the mission and does not have water. What a terrible start!!

I AM A MOM!!! Here on the mission when we get to train our new person it’s called our child. She is great! Her name is Sister Miranda. She is from Fogo. Her mission is Piracicaba, Brazil. She is waiting for her Visa; while she waits I am training her. She is a recent convert of one year and 7 months. Her knowledge of this gospel is great. It is interesting to hear her teach because it is very simple. I remember those days.

This week at church we had a new member who moved into our ward. Another ward member leaned over to me and said ‘oh, she lives on "Rua 10" (street 10)’ which is the street name. Therefor assuming he knows her and her house I invited her to our family night today. I then told the other member to get her and bring her to the family night. He then tells me ‘oh, I do not know where she lives!’ WHAT!? I then asked where Rua 10 is... He said "Oh, sister I do not know but she lives there." WHAT!? I was laughing so hard. He then said he would figure it out and bring her to Family night. I love the people here. They always keep me laughing.

I hope everyone has a great week! Lots of love!

Sister Burke!!

One of the best weeks so far...

This week was honestly one of the best weeks so far. I worked so hard to try and accomplish all the goals I had set. I did not accomplish all of them but I worked hard. Saturday there were lots of parties going on which is normal here. We still managed to meet our goals. Then the next day the Zone leaders asked us how we did that. We had the best day out of the entire zone. That made us feel so great, we were led by the spirit of who we needed to teach... D&C 42:8 :)

Then funny thing... so for anyone that knows my family... My mom thinks there are elephants here in Cape Verde. This past week I found a scripture about elephants... Ether 9:19. Elephants are everywhere. It is true! Ha-ha I thought that was funny.

Not many other interesting things happened this week. Everything was normal, taught a ton of people who seemed to accept our message. 4 investigators came to church which is great! Tomorrow I should receive my new companion.

Lots of love,

Sister Burke

Transfer #8

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! HELLO 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crazy to think, this year I will finish my mission!! This year will go by way to fast!! Today is my 11 Months on my mission! WHAT!?!?! Where has time gone!!??  Scripture for the new year!! 3 Nephi 12:47!!!

So transfers...

For this week I am with a Mini missionary. For those who do not know what that is... it is just a ward member who is preparing to serve a mission.  Sister Duca is my companion for this week. She is from Mindelo.

Then Next week I will start training!!! I will receive a new companion who is waiting for her Visa so she can go service her mission in Brazil. She is from the island of Fogo. She has not gone to the MTC yet because she will be going to the MTC in Brazil there for needs her Visa. So she is just coming from home to the mission here. How crazy is that!? I am so excited but must wait a little bit. I am going to train!! WOOT!!! New opportunity to grow and learn.

This week was crazy! I was with Sister Gimo (yes just for one week... lots of companions within a short amount of time I know but I have learned a lot!!). Anyway this week was a lot of firsts! I was trying to say a word in Portuguese but said it wrong. Sister Gimo busts out laughing. I then ask her wait I said. She told me, I had said a swear word. OH NO!! Oops!! Later that day we were at an investigators house, she offered us chocolate wrapped, this looked like a normal piece of chocolate... Well turned out it had alcohol in it. Oh no!! That was not cool!! We then asked her if there was alcohol in the chocolate, she said no it is something else. LIES!! Oops!! what a bad day for me...

For new years we came home at 7:30, since the streets were just full of drunk men who wanted to marry me. We then planned and made a cake then went to bed. At 11:30 we woke up and went to our roof. At midnight the boats in the harbor all honked their horns and fireworks went off. It was so cool to hear the boats. That was my favorite part!! Then at 12:20 we went back to bed. At 1am the parties started. Everyone was blasting music good thing I was super tired and heard nothing!

I hope everyone had a great new year!! Make this year great!!!

Love,

Sister Burke
